10 Takeaways from the Paris Hilton Documentary “This is Paris”
She will not stop until she’s a billionaire.

Documentaries always show us a new side of celebrities or whomever the documentary is about. I am a huge fan of documentaries and have watched hundreds. Paris Hilton’s documentary came out on September 14, 2020, and it was free on YouTube and it did not disappoint. Everybody knows Paris Hilton as the granddaughter of billionaire hotel entrepreneur, Conrad Hilton. Paris Hilton became one of the first influencer celebrities in the 2000s-2010s as the paparazzi followed her everywhere she went. We learned about this and so much more about her life in this documentary. I am going to list ten of the biggest points from the documentary but I still suggest checking it out.
Her Parents Had To Work

At the beginning of the documentary, we get a rundown of Conrad Hilton’s business as he made Hilton Hotels a mainstream company. We also get Kathy Hilton explaining the family dynamics a little more. She says, “The Hilton family there are eight children, the first five they got millions and millions of dollars, and then the three younger ones they did not.” It is interesting to find out how money is split between families when it is such generational wealth like the Hilton’s wealth. Kathy Hilton even confirmed that she and her husband had to work when she said, “So my husband and I, you know, we worked.”
Kim Kardashian West Was Her Assistant

We all knew Kim Kardashian West was friends with Paris Hilton but many people forget this is how Kim got her start. She started out as Paris Hilton’s best friend and personal assistant and was photographed whenever they went out. Paris had “The Simple Life” and Kim has “Keeping up with the Kardashians.” Kim did a few interviews for the documentary and even said she would not be where she is in her life without Paris Hilton.
She Turns Into Someone Else When The Camera’s Are On

At the beginning of the documentary, we are shown how big Paris’ fame truly got. They show clips of “The Simple Life” and show how she was the first one to really have the paparazzi be obsessed with your everyday life. They show a clip of Paris’ now-iconic line about Walmart and Paris gives her opinion on the clip. She says “I feel like the whole world thinks they know me because I have been playing this character for so long….That’s not me. No one really knows who I am.” Paris Hilton realizes at a young age that she had to market herself. She came up with this character in her head and the world was intrigued.
Her Sister Does Not Want To Be Famous

Paris seems to be very close with her sister, Nicky Hilton Rothschild. Nicky even says, “There’s no one in the world that knows her better than me.” The sister’s relationship was very interesting to watch during the full documentary. It seemed that Nicky did not want to partake in the documentary though and doesn’t have the same goals as Paris. She even says, “Can I just preference this by saying I don’t do these types of interviews, in the past 20 years I have chosen to not really partake in that.” They work together very well and get along very well even though they are very different people.
“I Will Not Stop Till I Make A Billion Dollars”

Paris Hilton said that line during the documentary after she was confronted about working too hard. She also talked about how she loved making money. Hilton’s grandfather is a billionaire and Paris herself has sold over $3 billion dollars in fragrances and makes $1 million per gig as a DJ so money is not a problem for her. It seems as if she wants to prove herself because people have told her she doesn’t need to work and she has “family money.” Paris Hilton is working harder than most celebrities and has her hand in many jars including DJ, fragrances, tv shows, and more.
She Doesn’t Want a Public Relationship

Hilton shares a lot about her love life and past failed relationships. She was engaged in 2018 and talked about her engagement. She thought he was the one and it broke her when it didn’t work out. This documentary filmed from mid-end 2019 and at the time she was dating Chris Zylka. She explained how she was trying to hide from the public because she wanted to have some privacy in her love life. There are some celebrities that love the attention even if it is their love life and Paris is not one of them. Paris and Chris got into an argument right before a DJ gig and the cameras were rolling for all of it as we saw her call security and kick him out.
She Has Insomnia

Insomnia is a running theme throughout the whole documentary. Paris talks about how she doesn’t like to sleep. She goes into full detail about the trauma from her childhood and how it caused this insomnia. For a while, she was going on 3 hours of sleep a night and working a full day schedule.
She Was Sent to Boarding School as a Child

Towards the end of the film, we find out more about the cause of her insomnia and her traumatic childhood. She talks about how she was partying and drinking too much and it was impacting her life so she was sent to boarding school. These boarding schools are not the fancy boarding schools you see in movies. She said she ran away from the first one and was beat by the people running them. She ran away from the next few as well. The beginning of the trauma however was when she felt like she was being kidnapped when two people stormed into her room and took her in the middle of the night to go to another boarding school. Her sister remembers waking up and Paris not being there.
Provo Canyon School Needs to Close

The worst school Paris was sent to was Provo Canyon School in Provo, Utah. Towards the end of the film, some of Paris’ former classmates come to her house to start the movement of ending Provo Canyon School. Paris talks about how she was giving pills for disorders/diseases that she did not have, she was emotionally, mentally, and physically abused and was put into solitary confinement. That was just Paris’ story as her classmates all shared their own stories and wrote on posters what they are dealing with now because of the school. She finds out that the school is still running and talks about how they can find ways to end school.
She is Just Like The Rest of Us

For decades people have put Paris Hilton on a platform above everyone else and this full dive of her life showed that she is just like the rest of us. Does she make more money than the majority of people on earth? Yes, but she also has human problems that she is just trying to get through. She also has passions and goals like DJ’ing. Paris Hilton is currently worth $300 million dollars but is still just a human.
I highly recommend checking out the documentary…
